It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
